Kabali is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language gangster-drama film written and directed by Pa. Ranjith. The film stars Rajinikanth as the title character, while Radhika Apte, Kishore, Dhansika, and Dinesh Ravi play supporting roles. While filming Kabali in Kuala Lumpur and Chennai from late 2015 to early 2016, the filmmakers faced problems such as violence against the crew. The film's music was composed by A. R. Rahman, while cinematography was handled by S. Aravind Kumar and editing by K. Sajith Kumar. Kabali opened to wide praise, with critics praising the casting, direction, performances, story and technical aspects of the film. The film became one of Rajinikanth's most commercially successful films in his career and became the highest-grossing South Indian film of all time at the time of its theatrical run in Tamil Nadu. In the last week of May 2016, Kabali surpassed Baahubali: The Beginning to become the highest-grossing Tamil film by worldwide gross, and became the first South Indian film to gross over 1 billion. The movie was dubbed in Telugu and released on 3 August 2016. In a slum where Kabali lives with his brother's family, a boy is caught by a policeman for stealing. Kabali intervenes and saves him by giving a note which reads "don't give candy to children", while the boy earns money by selling candy. This angers the policeman who then beats the child up. Kabali intervenes again and beats the policeman until he is stopped by his brother. The next day, Kabali pays for the medical expenses of the boy with money given to him by his friend "Michael"(Dinesh Ravi) who works as a school bus cleaner. Despite being discouraged by Michael's wife Selvi (Anjali Patil), he allows his younger sister to join Michael's children in singing at a school function. Kabali meets with an auto driver Shailesh (Kishore) who claims himself to be a big shot now, providing cars which are actually smuggled from Malaysia. Shailesh calls Michael to pay off his dues but Michael refuses, leading to an argument between them. Kabali intervenes and stops both gangsters from fighting. Michael warns Shailesh to be careful of his brother and tells him to stay away from the family. One night, Kabali rescues a child who has been kidnapped by her father's friends and takes her home. The next day, Kabali returns the child to the school and wins the affection of Michael's daughter Sana (Radhika Apte), who later helps him in his fight against Shailesh and other gangsters. Later, at a party for Sana, Kabali's friend "Chennaiyin FC" (Rajinikanth) (played by Kamal Haasan) arrives as Michael's "special guest". cfa1e77820
